New to Nevada?

Welcome. Here's how Nevada's school system works — and how to find the best fit for your child, step by step.

1

Find Your Zoned School

Every Nevada address is assigned to a zoned public school. If you live in Clark County (Las Vegas area), use the CCSD School Zone Search. If you live in Washoe County (Reno/Sparks area), use the Washoe County School District Zone Search. Enter your home address to see which school your child is guaranteed a seat at.

Look Up Your School's Rating

Every Nevada public school gets an NSPF star rating from 1 to 5, based on test scores, growth, and other metrics. A 5-star school is in the top tier; a 1-star school is struggling. Look up your zoned school to see its rating, then compare it to nearby alternatives.

Enroll or Apply

For your zoned public school, enrollment is usually walk-in at the school office with proof of residence (lease, utility bill, or mortgage statement), your child's birth certificate, immunization records, and prior school transcripts. Charter schools often have a lottery or waitlist — apply early, especially for popular schools.

Already Enrolled but Want to Switch?

Nevada allows intra-district transfers in most cases, but space must be available at the receiving school. Some districts have open enrollment windows in spring. Charter schools accept transfers year-round if they have seats. Learn the exact steps and deadlines.
